The Installers Certification is one of the levels of P.I.P.E.'s
Certification Programs which has been developed to serve the needs of
medical gas system installers. This examination is intended to
determine the applicants knowledge of medical gas systems and
applicable portions of NFPA 99 (2005 Edition).
It is anticipated that facility owners, architects and engineers
will soon require this certification as a minimum medical gas
installer qualification. This Installer Certification will signify
that the cardholder has an acceptable knowledge of medical gas code
requirements, as well as knowledge of medical gas piping systems,
medical gas components, and other associated appurtenances.
Certification Requirements and
Information
Prerequisites for the examination are:
•A letter issued by a licensed plumbing contractor,
mechanical contractor, medical facility, or other acceptable
agency, written on company letterhead, and verifying that the
applicant has not less than four(4) years of trade related
experience. This statement shall bear the notorized signature of a
designated agent having authority to represent the company
regarding legal matters.
•The applicant shall present a current Medical Gas Brazer
Certificate which represents sucessful test and certfication based
upon the code requirements set forth in the NFPA 99, 2005 Edition
Section 5.1.10.10.12 (Qualification of Brazing Procedures and
Brazing).
The applicant must attend a 40 hour course before he/she will be
allowed to take the Medical Gas Installer Exam. The examination is a
two hour and fifteen minute open book test to determine the
applicants knowledge of NFPA 99, 2005 Edition. There are 100
questions on the test, you must answer 90% correct in order to
receive a passing grade. After the applicant has sucessfully
completed the Brazing qualifications and written examination, he/she
will be issued an "Active" P.I.P.E. Medical Gas Installer/Brazer
Certification.
The Installer/Brazer must stay current on their Brazing
qualifications in order for the certification to stay "Active". If
the Installer fails to maintain their Brazing qualifications as per
NFPA 99, 2005 Edition, Section 5.1.10.10.12 then the Medical Gas
Installer/Brazer will become "Inactive".
